π°οΈ Wellyβs Time Machine - When Hollywood Royalty came to town
π¬ In 1966, Hollywood superstar Charlton Heston swapped the silver screen for a tennis court β right on Mercer Street in central Wellington! He played a charity doubles match in front of a 10,000-strong crowd, riding in Ben Hur-style and helping raise money for the Intellectually Handicapped Childrenβs Society. Traffic stopped, history was made, and itβs still the largest known crowd for a tennis match in New Zealandβs history.
